Meet the new director of SP2, Gio Bastante! Gio is from Pembroke Pines, FL and is currently working as the Director of Percussion at Flanagan High School and as Front Ensemble Coordinator for the Cypress Bay Sound of Thunder. As a graduate herself of Flanagan High School, Gio participated as a percussionist for all musical ensembles ranging from marching to classical to jazz as well as becoming a member of the color guard in 2009, earning high accolades with Bands of America and Winter Guard International.

Gio then went on to become a member of the Boston Crusaders Front Ensemble in the summer of 2010. She returned to Drum Corps International as a member of the Administrative Team for the World Champion Santa Clara Vanguard in 2018. As a graduate of Florida State University, Gio is currently working toward becoming certified in Elementary Music Education.

Gio joined the education staff for STRYKE Percussion 2 in 2016 as a front ensemble technician and helped bring the gold medal to SP2 in its inaugural season. She is excited to join the team as the ensemble director for STRYKE Percussion 2 for the 2019 season.
